Peaks
1st May 2007

The first British Railways built large diesel locomotives, the BR Sulzer type 4s were originally based on the London Midland Region. The first ten were named after British mountains and gained the name 'Peaks'. This name was carried on with the slightly more powerful derivatives that followed, even though no other names of mountains were carried. These machines were my favourite diesel electric locomotives, and this collection shows pictures of Peaks in service and awaiting disposal. Classes 45 and 46 are found here...(with a token 44!), and there will be updates when I get around to scanning them in!+ To see Peaks in preservation, look at the Preserved Peaks collection.
(Some are scans from 110 shots, taken from as early as the age of 12 (1981) so may not be David Bailey quality, but I was there so I don't care!).
